Amit Joshi

Background and History

Amit completed a Master’s in commerce but decided that percussion was his true calling. He has been a disciple of Ustad AllaRakha for 9 years and has been fortunate to be blessed by Ustad Zakir Hussain. He has also learned the basics of harmonium and vocals from Smt. Jayamalabai Shiledar.

Musical Journey

In 2003 Amit toured Mauritus and recently toured Europe. He has three albums to his credit, namely ‘Trikaal’, ‘Shubhanjali’ and ‘Vasudevaya’. He has performed with several reputed artistes like Pt. Appasaheb Jalgaonkar, Smt. Jayamalabai Shiledar and Udit Narayan. His performances have ranged from styles of Indian folk music to western classical music as well as world fusion music. Amit was also blessed by the legendary Smt. Lata Mangeshkar and Smt. Asha Bhonsle in a concert hosted by the Mangeshkars.

Trivia

Amit is an ardent believer in ‘The Art of Living’. He is keenly interested in recording music and experimenting. He is also passionate about flight simulation and techniques.

Anup Joshi

Background and History

Anup is an electronics engineer. He was first introduced to the tabla by Mrs. Varsha Godbole and Dr. Dhananjay Patki. After listening to Ustad Zakir Hussain, he was immensely inspired. Between 1996 to 1999 he learned the fundamentals of rhythm from an eminent tutor - Ustad AllaRakha and has been blessed by Ustad Zakir Hussain. From 2001 he has been learning under Shri. Ramdas Palsule.

Musical Journey

Anup has completed an MA (Sangeet Alankar) in music. As a child he performed on ‘Doordarshan’ in ‘Balchitravaani’. He has also performed on stage with the eminent drummer and music director Ranjeet Barot and singer Kailash Kher. He has performed in various classical and fusion concerts all over India.

Trivia

Apart from music, he is interested in Physics and Mathematics and is an amateur astronomer. Anup has varied interests ranging from ornithology to cosmology.

Manoj Bhandwalkar

Background and History

Playing the Pakhwaj is in Manoj’s blood since playing the Pakhwaj is a legacy from his grandfather. He learned the basics of Pakhwaaj from Pt. Ramdasji Bhoyar for four years and then attended a concert by Pt. Bhawani Shankar which revolutionized his life and moulded his personal philosophy. He resolved to become a disciple of Pt. Bhawani Shankar and has been learning under him for six years.

Musical Journey

In the past four years Manoj has performed with world renowned artists like Pt. Bhawani Shankarji, Pt. Sanjeev Abhyankar. His other achievements include playing the Pakhwaaj for ‘Dushtachakra’ – a serial on Alpha TV (Marathi) as well as for ‘Tarunyachya Laatewar’ – a Marathi film. Manoj has also performed on ‘Akashwaani’ radio.

Trivia

Manoj has completed a Post Graduate Diploma in Business Management after completing a Bachelor’s in Commerce. Being highly spiritually inclined, Manoj likes to tour and perform at sacred places.
